A day spent in Innsbruck
– Jakschitz in Innsbruck – saw many random banners today but this and ‘Wanktunnel jetzz’ probably win. Haven’t a scooby what either means – though I suspect it’s a good thing I don’t
– Bergisel ski jump – also home to many early Air & Style comps. Locked down like a prison. Couldn’t get near it
– Olympiahalle – Innsbruck hosted two full Olympics (and one youth games). Just a thought but surely anywhere with real snow and mountains would be a better Winter Games host than Pyeongchang or Beijing
– A river – Presumably the Inn
– Hillwalking by accident. Compensated by trees and views over Innsbruck
– City centre
– Goldenes Dachl. An Innsbruck landmark apparently. A balcony with a gold roof – actually made of copper. Inspiring 😐
– Imperial Palace – Previous summer home to Habsburgs, now a museum
– Burton Europe – I guess like most snowboarders, I’ve spent pretty much every season of my adult life in – or on – at least one item made by Burton or its offshoots. This felt almost like essential pilgrimage – though it’s probably more interesting when it’s open rather than at 11 at night
A Brief History of Innsbruck
Innsbruck, meaning “Inn Bridge” in German, owes its name to the vital bridge over the Inn River that facilitated trade routes since ancient times. Originally a Celtic settlement, it later became a strategic hub of the Roman Empire. Over the centuries, Innsbruck flourished under the rule of various dynasties, including the Habsburgs, leaving behind a legacy of stunning architecture and cultural heritage.
