Unexpected (but very welcome) snow arrived across the whole of Turkey in late January bringing with it the best conditions of the 2021/22 season by far. In Palandöken, previously closed areas on the mountain were able to open with the top lifts running.
After the long wait through December and the first half of January, conditions were the best of the season to date through January in Palandöken. Indeed, two chairs that had previously been closed finally opened giving access to the higher reaches of the mountain.

Late January in Palandöken / Ejder 3200 / Erzurum

Temperatures remained cold through January allowing Palandoken to top up the artificial cover. However, by far the biggest news (and most welcome) was the arrival of storms spreading from the west that blanketed the country in snow – including Istanbul.
This fresh cover massively expanded the available area with two new lifts opening – most notably the summit chairlift.
