While Madrid is probably better known for its museums, architecture, nightlife and culture, the city also has Spain’s only indoor snowdome, just a short bus ride from the city centre. I first read about this place many years ago so it had been on the visit list for a quite a while. Scroll down for more information on riding at Madrid Snozone.

Madrid Snowzone – the riding
Make no mistake – as impressive as indoor snowdomes are, there’s no denying they can’t quite stack up against riding real snow on a mountain. Then again, that’s not really the point. While indoor centres don’t come anywhere close in terms of offering piste variety or length, they are nonetheless ideal for learning to ski or snowboard – and they’re also particularly good for dialling tricks.
In recent years, indoor centres have become the stomping ground for many up-and-coming skiers and snowboarders – especially freestyle riders. This has been particularly true for the UK scene.
On my visit, the Madrid Snozone had a good and wide cover of surprisingly good quality snow (compared to other indoor facilities I’ve visited). The slope is intentionally a pretty mellow incline (almost all snowdomes are) and the chairlift will make getting up the hill a little easier for novice riders. The rental equipment wasn’t the best but good enough for a few hours (I think every skier and snowboarder always prefers using their own stuff).
